Natuurlijk moet je niet ergens aan mee doen omdat het in is, maar omdat het goed werkt. En gelukkig is dat bij heatmaps ook het geval. De afbeeldingen laten je namelijk zien waar er wordt geklikt op je website, hoe de muis wordt bewogen en waar bezoekers afhaken. Heatmaps brengen website data op een visuele manier in kaart. In tegenstelling tot sommige andere data hoef je geen data-goeroe te zijn om ze te begrijpen. Het is een waardevolle aanvulling op de cijfers uit je website analyses. Wanneer je deze nieuwe inzichten goed gebruikt, kun je de conversie op je website flink verhogen. Zo haal je meer rendement uit je inbound marketing activiteiten en vind je de figuurlijke pot met goud aan het einde van de regenboog. Benieuwd hoe dat werkt? Natuurlijk richt jij je website in met relevante content voor je gebruikers. Je praat niet alleen maar over je product, maar vooral over de [problemen en oplossingen voor jouw ideale klant](https://www.hubspot.com/inbound-marketing). Vooraf doe je uitgebreid onderzoek naar onderwerpen die voor hem interessant zijn (met behulp van bijvoorbeeld [keyword onderzoek](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/blog/word-gevonden-een-keyword-analyse-in-4-stappen)) en zorg je dat de website hiermee gevuld wordt. Met heatmaps kun je controleren of gebruikers je content ook echt lezen. Scrollmaps laten zien tot waar gebruikers scrollen en hoeveel procent van de gebruikers bijvoorbeeld net na de vouwlijn al afhaakt (ai, pijnlijk!). Toch hoeft dit niet te betekenen dat je content niet goed is. Een voorbeeld: Piet heeft een website met voornamelijk long-form blogs van zo’n 3000 woorden. Scrollmaps laten hem zien dat een groot deel van zijn bezoekers al afhaakt na de eerste paar alinea’s. Dat klinkt alarmerend. Wanneer hij de clickmaps bekijkt, ziet hij dat alle gebruikers die wél tot het einde van zijn posts komen, bijna allemaal converteren naar leads. Conclusie? De relevante gebruikers blijven over – zij worden immers lead. Piet is dus goed bezig met zijn lange blogs. *Take-away*: kies een tool om heatmaps van je site te verkrijgen (denk aan [LuckyOrange](https://www.luckyorange.com/), [hotjar](https://www.hotjar.com/) of [Crazy Egg](https://www.crazyegg.com/)) en loop door verschillende pagina’s van je site heen. Richt specifieke aandacht op het gedrag boven de vouwlijn (daar wordt immers [nog steeds de meeste tijd besteed](https://www.nngroup.com/articles/scrolling-and-attention/)) en op het onderste stuk van je website, daar gaat namelijk ook de aandacht weer omhoog. ## Check je website op banner-blindness Ooit gehoord van banner blindness? Je kent het fenomeen vast wel. Dat is wanneer calls-to-action een advertentie-achtig uiterlijk hebben, waardoor ze direct worden genegeerd door bezoekers. Zonde als jij daarmee net je nieuwe e-book onder de aandacht wilt brengen. *Take-away*: heatmaps laten je zien of cta buttons wel of niet de aandacht van de bezoeker trekken. Heroverweeg indien nodig het ontwerp van calls-to-action of test de klikbaarheid met a/b testen. ## Ontdek hoe bezoekers je website gebruiken Nauw samenhangend met punt één: zoek uit hoe je website gebruik wordt. Heatmaps laten niet alleen zien welke content gelezen wordt en hoeveel bezoekers converteren, ze kunnen je ook helpen een duidelijker beeld te geven van de buyer journey op je website. Bekijk of gebruikers niet worden afgeleid van de belangrijkste content op webpagina’s. Check daarnaast ook of ze alles goed kunnen vinden. Belangrijke navigatie-elementen zoals de zoekfunctie en het menu zouden altijd makkelijk bereikbaar moeten zijn. *Take-away*: Overweeg je een nieuwe website? Bouw deze dan volgens de [growth driven design](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/blog/growth-driven-design-stap-2-launch-pad-website) methode en test tussentijds wat werkt. Gedragen gebruikers zich echt zoals verwacht? Of is het gedrag toch anders? Heatmaps vertellen je het. ## Waar plaats ik mijn content strategisch? Heb je duidelijk in kaart wat er op je website gebeurt en welke content slim is om te plaatsen? Dan is het tijd voor de volgende stap: het strategisch plaatsen van die content. Je hebt immers bepaalde content die belangrijker is om onder de aandacht te brengen dan andere. Move heatmaps laten je zien hoe bezoekers met hun muis door je website bewegen. In combinatie met scroll heatmaps kun je zien waar de aandacht op je website naar toe gaat en waar je dus bijvoorbeeld het beste de calls-to-actions plaatst. *Take-away*: wil je direct wat slimme aanpassingen doen op je website? Grootschalige studies wijzen uit dat de content aan de linkerkant van webpagina’s het best wordt bekeken door websitebezoekers en dat zij [content lezen in een F-vorm](https://www.nngroup.com/articles/scrolling-and-attention-original-research/). Dat betekent: - Ze hebben het meeste aandacht voor de eerste twee alinea’s en scannen daarna de rest van de tekst; - Gebruik dus bulletpoints en subkopjes om dat scannen makkelijker te maken en de aandacht te trekken. ## Meer inzicht in A/B testen Als je al gebruik maakt van A/B testen, weet je hoe nuttig dit kan zijn bij het verhogen van de conversie op bepaalde pagina’s. Met een heatmap kun je precies zien hoe het gedrag op de pagina’s verandert als je één element aanpast. Misschien ben je erachter gekomen dat lange pagina’s beter converteren, dus maak je alle pagina’s lang. Logisch. Misschien heeft niet de lengte van de pagina voor betere conversie gezorgd, maar de titel van de pagina. Een heatmap laat je niet alleen zien wat het eindresultaat is (namelijk: meer of minder conversie), maar geeft ook inzicht in het gedrag op de pagina. Je ziet precies waar mensen hun muis bewegen, tot waar ze scrollen en waar ze op klikken. Je hoeft dus nooit meer in het duister te tasten. *Take-away*: gebruik A/B testen en zet heatmaps in, zodat je weet welke factor uiteindelijk écht het verschil maakt.  ## Klaar voor de start – testen maar!
