What is above the fold?
By "above the fold," we mean the part of the page that someone sees immediately as soon as they land on the page. So this is all the content that can be seen without having to scroll.
Why is it important?
Every page on your website has a purpose. This goal is often described as conversion. To achieve the goal of your page, you must make sure that you make it as easy as possible for the visitor to take the desired action.
One way to accomplish this is to ensure that the visitor does not have to scroll to convert. For example, consider an e-book landing page. The conversion in this case is for a visitor to download the e-book. So make sure the form is placed above the fold.
Different screens
Keep in mind that people view your pages on screens of different sizes. In this case, it is especially important to realize that people also use smaller screens.
So the part of the content that is visible above the fold is not the same for everyone. On a smartphone, you see a lot less content above the fold than, say, on a laptop. A tablet is somewhere in between.
