Dit is content die inhoudelijk zo interessant is voor je potentiële klant dat deze zijn of haar gegevens invult op je website in ruil voor dit content-item. Vaak wordt een [whitepaper](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/blog/whitepaper-schrijven-gebruik-de-80-whitepaper-regel) gebruikt als het "Central Content Offering". In een vorig artikel over het schrijven van een whitepaper beschreef ik de [voordelen van het gebruiken van een whitepaper outline](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/blog/whitepaper-schrijven-gebruik-de-80-whitepaper-regel). In dit artikel wil ik kort uitleggen wat de 80% whitepaper-regel is en hoe je deze kunt toepassen wanneer je een whitepaper gaat of laat schrijven. ## Wat is de 80% Whitepaper-regel? De 80% Whitepaper-regel stelt dat minstens 80% van een whitepaper uit didactisch, educatief materiaal moet bestaan en dat slechts 20% ervan uit promotioneel materiaal mag bestaan. Die 80% aan educatief materiaal vormt het eerste stuk van de whitepaper (dit wordt ook wel het *tijdschrift-gedeelte* genoemd) en de 20% aan promo-materiaal dient het tweede stuk te vormen(ook wel het *brochure-gedeelte* genoemd). Eigenlijk is het zelfs beter om een whitepaper te schrijven die voor 90% uit educatieve stof bestaat en voor 10% uit promo-materiaal. Maar in het algemeen is 80% inhoud en 20% promo-materiaal een goede balans, zolang je maar niet over de 20% "promo-materiaalgrens" heengaat. ## Waarom is deze regel zo belangrijk? Tot voor enkele jaren geleden werden whitepapers alleen gepubliceerd door internationale bedrijven, die complexe en dure producten verkochten (de IBM's en Oracles van deze wereld). Ze hielden de 80%-regel goed aan door de whitepaper te verdelen in een tijdschrift-gedeelte en een promotie-gedeelte. Tegenwoordig worden whitepapers ook gebruikt in [marketingstrategieën](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/blog/de-moderne-marketingstrategie-als-online-marathon) van ondernemingen, die internationaal opereren tot en met ondernemingen uit het MKB. Vaak merk ik dat de 80%-regel bij deze whitepapers niet wordt toegepast. In deze whitepapers zie je dat er in het educatieve gedeelte veel afgewisseld wordt met promo-materiaal. Dit gaat ten koste van de effectiviteit van deze whitepapers, omdat lezers bij teveel reclame afhaken. ## Hoe kun je de 80% Whitepaper-regel effectief toepassen? De volgende stappen zijn erg handig als je de regel van 80% wilt toepassen om je whitepaper effectiever te maken: 1. Zorg voor een goede outline van je whitepaper, waarin je aangeeft dat er geen promotie-materiaal in het tijdschrift-gedeelte van de white paper hoort te zitten. Vermeld daarbij ook dat alle promo-info alleen aan het eind van de white paper hoort te zitten 2. Een aantal keer proeflezen om er zeker van te zijn dat er geen promo-info in het tijdschrift-gedeelte zit. 3. Richt je in de tekst op het informeren en het helpen van de lezer en niet op het verkopen van je product of dienst. Met het toepassen van bovenstaande tips kun je whitepapers schrijven die gericht zijn op het informeren van de lezer en effectief zijn bij je leadgeneratie strategie.
