Ondernemers kunnen er vol voor gaan of er een houding op na houden die zich laat omschrijven als ‘het hoort er nu eenmaal bij, we zullen ons product of dienst toch aan de man moeten brengen’. Welke van deze twee visies je echter ook aanhangt, bij beide wil je uiteindelijk met je vrijgemaakte marketingbudget iets zinvols doen.* ## **Klanten kosten geld...** Het lijkt een vreemde manier om met de deur in huis te vallen, maar het klopt wel. Tenminste, klanten kosten je geld in de periode voordat ze klant zijn geworden. Via je uitgaven aan marketing en communicatie betaal je voor je toekomstige klanten. Je moet eerst investeren in een potentiële klant en een relatie met hem of haar opbouwen voordat ze tot een aankoop overgaan. De kosten voor marketing, sales en andere uitgaven die je daarbij doet, is de zogenaamde **customer acquisition cost **(**CAC**). Je kunt de CAC eenvoudig zelf berekenen. Het gaat hier namelijk om de totale conversiekosten die je maakt in een bepaalde periode gedeeld door het aantal nieuwe klanten. Stel dat je in een bepaalde periode €20.000,- aan marketing, sales en verwante zaken (relevante salarissen, overhead) hebt uitgegeven. Dit heeft je 40 nieuwe klanten opgeleverd. Dan is de CAC €500,-. Je hebt nu de kosten te pakken die de [conversie](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/kenniscentrum/conversie) van één nieuwe klant met zich meebrengt. Het gaat dus niet om klanten die al eerder bij je hebben gekocht, want aan hen heb je in het verleden al budget gespendeerd. Wat heb je nu aan deze informatie? ## **...maar gaan het ook opleveren** Een klant hoeft niet slechts eenmalig iets bij je aan te schaffen. Als je het goed speelt, blijft hij of zij terugkomen voor vervolgaankopen. Zo kun je de CAC terugverdienen en winst gaan maken. De periode dat een klant aankopen bij je blijft doen, van de eerste tot de laatste keer, noemen we de **customer lifetime**. De totale omzet die je aan één klant verdient tijdens diens omgang met je onderneming noemen we de **customer lifetime value **(**CLTV**). Als een klant uit het bovenstaande voorbeeld gemiddeld 2 jaar klant bij je blijft en in die periode €750,- per jaar uitgeeft, is de CLTV €1500,-. Het spreekt voor zich dat er een verband is tussen de CAC en de CLTV. Sterker nog, als de ratio tussen CLTV en CAC 3:1 is zoals in bovenstaand voorbeeld, kun je zeggen dat je je zaakjes goed op orde hebt en je onderneming (op dit gebied) gezond is. Maar jij wilt groeien. > ***"Met inbound marketing maak je op een effectievere manier gebruik van je marketingbudget."*** ## **Hoe kan ik groei realiseren?** Het is een kwestie van terugredeneren. Als je graag meer klanten wilt hebben, zul je meer leads moeten verzilveren. Om dat voor elkaar te krijgen, heb je meer [relevante leads](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/kenniscentrum/leadgeneratie) nodig. Daarvoor moeten weer meer potentiële leads de weg naar je website afleggen. Uiteindelijk kom je uit bij de vindbaarheid, relevantie en algehele kwaliteit van je website. Die moet staan als een huis. Dat is waar inbound marketing om de hoek komt kijken.    ## **De integrale aanpak van inbound marketing** Met [inbound marketing](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/kenniscentrum/inbound-marketing) maak je op een effectievere manier gebruik van je marketingbudget. Je zorgt ervoor dat de juiste bezoekers op je website terechtkomen, dat je ze waardevolle content biedt op een moment dat ze het nodig hebben en via een kanaal dat bij ze past. Potentiële nieuwe klanten raadplegen Google voor een antwoord op hun problemen. Door ervoor te zorgen dat ze op dat moment bij jou uitkomen, moet je een antwoord op deze vragen kunnen geven en vervolgens een persoonlijke band met ze opbouwen. Door via [buyer persona’s](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/kenniscentrum/buyer-persona) inzicht te krijgen in je ideale klant, diens zoekgedrag in kaart te brengen, te onderzoeken hoe de [buyer journey](https://www.brightdigital.com/nl/kenniscentrum/buyer-journey) verloopt, een marketingstrategie op te tuigen en gerichte content te maken, kun je hem of haar uiteindelijk bieden wat ze nodig hebben. Zo heb jij er een fan bij. ## **Software maakt marketing accountable** Inbound marketing is geen gok. Je schiet niet met hagel om je heen en kijkt maar wie er hapt. Omdat je een door data onderbouwd inzicht krijgt vanuit de software en zo weet wat er speelt in de markt, kun je gericht reageren met een passende inbound marketingstrategie. Ook blijf je optimaliseren op basis van de verkregen data. Je kunt dus zien wat er wel en wat er niet werkt. Zo ben je in de luxepositie om duidelijke benchmarks te stellen en te verbeteren en marketing ervoor verantwoordelijk te houden.  ## **Vergeet je huidige klanten niet!** Hier houdt het proces niet op. Het is veel makkelijker om een klant te behouden dan om een nieuwe voor je te winnen. Blijf je trouwe klant dus verrassen met aanbiedingen en extra’s.
